A FAMILY devastated by Victoria’s floods has been hit with a second tragedy, losing a second son.

Ian Collins, 19, whose girlfriend is eight months pregnant, was killed yesterday morning when the ute he was driving veered from Mitchell Rd in Kialla, near Shepparton, and hit a tree as he travelled to work.

Only months ago his family was left in shock when his little brother, Lachlan, 8, drowned in a billabong created by January’s floods.

Lachlan was playing with his brother Jerry, 12, and sister Sarah, 10, when he fell from a pontoon.

The eldest brother of six children in the family, Ashley, said he couldn’t believe Ian had been killed as the family continued to mourn his youngest brother’s drowning.

Mr Collins said Ian was looking forward to becoming a father for the first time.

“He was about to become a father in four weeks. That was about all he was looking forward to.” he said.

Mr Collins, 21, said his brother’s partner was in shock. “I guarantee you she’s a mess.”

Ian Collins began working when he was 14 at a butcher shop and became a qualified butcher after finishing his apprenticeship last year.

“He was on his way to work when he died. He loved his job, he lived for his job,” Ashley Collins said.

“It’s terrible. Dad’s taken it hard and Mum’s not good.

“Twice in three months is just not right.”
